As kids, Chris and Eric grew up without the game of hockey. Born of immigrant parents, access to the sport was prohibitive mostly because of the cost. With backgrounds in multiple sports at competitive levels, and degrees in recreation and kinesiology, they "found" hockey as adults. While Chris was living and working in Vancouver and Eric was living and working in Edmonton, they both moved back to Victoria. What they didn't know was the Chris 1 year playing adult rec. hockey in Vancouver while Eric was playing shinny with his Edmonton co-workers ignited a fire they couldn't ignore. They had to play more ice hockey.
Everyone knew someone who played, but where was the entry point for people who never played? Thus Island Hockey 101 was born in January of 2005 with the hopes of providing a place beginners could navigate the game and ever since, they have been trying to introduce the game to adults who might never had the opportunity. While there are several tiers of skill and ability, their personal pride is knowing they offer opportunities for anyone to step on the ice and enjoy Canada's game.
